Welcome to our new Web Page! We hope this site will enable  our students and their families, past and present to have a glimpse of what happens in the day-to-day operations of our classroom, where we instruct the children in the study of math and social studies.

On occasion, we will post lessons and pictures of events which have taken place within our classroom. As this is a new venture for us, we ask for understanding and patience as we traverse our way through the technology abyss we call the information highway.

As the new school year began, and after getting to know our students, we embarked on the exploration of Problem Solving, the discovery of patterns.....geometric, arithmetic, and natural. We also investigated variable expressions, exponents, powers and now we are working towards mastery of the Order of Operations, which will allow for a deeper understanding of solving complex algebraic algorithms.

A multi-sensory approach is taken when all new material is introduced to the students. Active learning in the way of hands on activities, manipulatives, and the immersion of the students in the language of mathematics allows for them to have a better understanding of the concept taught. The reflection and explanation they develop of specific topics enables the information to be imprinted within their brain and allows for the necessary information to be connected to the metacognitive function. This process allows for them to construct meaning from information gathering, thus enabling the students to take ownership of their learning.

So far, we are thrilled with the efforts all our students have put forth! We are off to a great start and we expect wonderful outcomes from them this year. We look forward to keeping you posted as they grow and learn new ways of approaching complex mathematical concepts.

Until next time....
